हर साल यहां अंबुबाची मेले के दौरान, पास में स्थित ब्रह्मपुत्र का पानी तीन दिनों के लिए लाल हो जाता है। पानी का यह लाल रंग कामाख्या देवी के मासिक धर्म के कारण है। फिर तीन दिन बाद, भक्तों की भीड़ मंदिर में दर्शन के लिए जाती है। आपको बता दें कि मंदिर में भक्तों को बहुत ही अजीबोगरीब प्रसाद चढ़ाया जाता है। कामाख्या देवी मंदिर में अन्य शक्तिपीठों की तुलना में लाल रंग का गीला कपड़ा चढ़ाया जाता है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जब मां को तीन दिनों तक मासिक धर्म होता है, तो मंदिर के अंदर सफेद रंग का कपड़ा फैला होता है। तीन दिन बाद, जब मंदिर के दरवाजे खोले जाते हैं, तो कपड़े को माँ के राजा से लाल रंग में भिगोया जाता है। इस कपड़े को अम्बुवाची वस्त्र कहा जाता है। इसे भक्तों को प्रसाद के रूप में चढ़ाया जाता है।
